I will arise now and go about the city, through the streets and squares. I will seek the one I love. So I sought him but did not find him.

1Ní orí ibùsùn mi ní òru
mo wá ẹni tí ọkàn mí fẹ́;
mo wá a, ṣùgbọ́n èmi kò rí i. 2Èmi yóò dìde nísinsin yìí, èmi yóò sì rìn lọ káàkiri ìlú,
ní àwọn òpópónà àti ní àwọn gbangba òde;
èmi yóò wá ẹni tí ọkàn mi fẹ́.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni mo wá a ṣùgbọ́n èmi kò rí i. 3Àwọn ọdẹ tí ń ṣọ́ ìlú rí mi
bí wọ́n ṣe ń rìn yíká ìlú.
“Ǹjẹ́ ìwọ ti rí ẹni tí ọkàn mi fẹ́?” 4Gẹ́rẹ́ tí mo fi wọ́n sílẹ̀
ni mo rí ẹni tí ọkàn mi fẹ́.
Mo dìímú, èmi kò sì jẹ́ kí ó lọ
títí tí mo fi mú u wá sílé ìyá mi,
sínú yàrá ẹni tí ó lóyún mi.
